July 4th weekend had it all this year. Mosquitoes, gutter filling cloudbursts, an awesome four days off, and the pleasure of simple paddling. Home water is always good. It never gets old, at least for me. The smell, the sounds, the feel of standing and sitting on top of something inherently unstable. It’s all good.
Sunday’s paddle was unique. With the paddleboard still on the trailer from Saturday with my wife, I decided to toss in a canoe paddle and go tall when standing and short when sitting. It worked great! As usual I had the Yahara River between Kegonsa and Mud Lake virtually to myself, except for the few minutes when a large gang of kayakers came through from upstream. Thankfully it wasn’t lunch time yet, so they didn’t run off with my milk money :).
